[835] Then Alāta the general said this to the king:
"Let us array in arms the entire host — a force elated and fit.
Let us march forth to battle, sire — we whose troops and men are without limit;
those who do not come under your sway, let us bring them under sway.³
This is my own view (diṭṭhi): let us vanquish the as-yet unvanquished.⁴
Delight in battle, sire — this is my thought."
Apparatus (Siam Raṭṭha footnotes; M. = the Burmese edition):
¹ M.: nandiṃ pavesi nagaraṃ. ² M.: pannarasiṃ. ³ M.: upanayāmase. ⁴ M.: ojināmase.
[Translator's note: footnote markers ¹ and ² have no anchor within the Pali of this item; they evidently belong to the preceding item printed on the same page of the Siam Raṭṭha edition. This identification is the translator's inference, not part of the printed apparatus.]
