[834] There was a king of the Videhans, a khattiya (warrior-noble) named Aṅgati,
possessed of many chariots, wealthy, with troops and men without end.
And on the fifteenth-day night, as the first watch was coming on —
on the Komudī of the four months — he had his ministers assembled:
wise men, accomplished in learning, his friends of old, discerning —
Vijaya and Sunāma and Alāta the general.
The Videhan king asked each of them in turn: "Speak, each one, your own pleasure.
Today is the Komudī of the four months; the moonlight has dispelled the dark.
With what delight shall we spend this night today, this season?"
