[851] Having heard the words of Vījaka, King Aṅgati said:
"There is no door to a good destination (sugati); await what is destined,¹ Vījaka.
Pleasure or suffering (dukkha), so it is said, is obtained only as destined;²
for all there is purification through the round of rebirths (saṃsāra) —
do not be hasty³ over what has not yet come.
In the past I too was good, zealously engaged⁴ among brahmins and wealthy householders (ibbha);
while administering the affairs [of state], I was bereft of delight all that while."
