[888] Harsh, its waters caustic, scalding hot, hard to cross is the river Vetaraṇī; covered over with iron lotuses, it flows with razor-sharp leaves. There, as you are swept along in the Vetaraṇī, where there is nothing to hold to, your limbs all cut to pieces, smeared with blood — who would ask you for that wealth?
