[967] He should be one who supports his mother and father,
who honors the elders of his family,
gentle, affable in speech —
such a one may dwell in the king's court.
Disciplined, skilled in the arts, tamed,
accomplished, steadfast, mild,
heedful, pure, and deft —
such a one may dwell in the king's court.
Humble in his bearing, deferential
and respectful toward the elders,
meek, and pleasant to live with —
such a one may dwell in the king's court.
He should shun from afar
a person sent to draw him into league;
he should look to his own master alone,
and not to another king.
