And going constantly to his threshing floor, his granary, his livestock, and his fields,
he should have the grain measured and laid up in store, and should have [only] a measured amount cooked in the house.
As for a son, or a brother of one's own, who is not steadfast in virtue (sīla) —
such fools are indeed no [true] members [of the family]; they are even as the dead —
to them, as they sit [waiting], he should have clothing and a portion of food given;
but slaves, workmen, and dependents who are well steadfast in virtue,
skilled and possessed of initiative — these he should establish in authority.
