[129] **A creature, having himself undertaken observances (vata):** *having himself undertaken* means having undertaken on his own (sāmaṃ samādāya). **Observances:** having taken, having undertaken, having taken up, having assumed, having grasped, having adhered to, and having insisted upon the elephant-observance, or the horse-observance, or the cow-observance, or the dog-observance, or the crow-observance, or the Vāsudeva-observance, or the Baladeva-observance, or the Puṇṇabhadda-observance, or the Maṇibhadda-observance, or the fire-observance, or the nāga-observance, or the supaṇṇa-observance, or the yakkha-observance, or the asura-observance … or the direction-observance. **A creature (jantu):** a being, a man … a human. Hence: "a creature, having himself undertaken observances."
