[145] **For him there is nothing grasped as supreme (tassīdaṃ natthi paramuggahītaṃ)**: "For him (tassa)" means: for the Arahant whose taints (āsava) are destroyed (khīṇāsava). For him, "this is supreme (paramaṃ), foremost, best, most excellent,¹ pre-eminent, highest, superior" — thus grasped, misapprehended, adhered to, clung to, resolved upon. **There is not (natthi)**: there is not, they are not, it is not found, it is not to be obtained. It is abandoned, cut off, stilled, allayed, rendered incapable of arising again, burnt by the fire of knowledge (ñāṇa) — thus, "for him there is nothing grasped as supreme." Therefore the Blessed One said:
The brahmin (brāhmaṇa), gone beyond the boundary — for him there is
nothing grasped after having known and having seen;
he is not impassioned with passion, nor attached to dispassion;
for him there is nothing grasped as supreme.
