[147] **"Abiding in views, [holding] 'This is supreme'"** means: there are some ascetics and brahmins who are adherents of views (diṭṭhigatika). Having taken up, learned, grasped, misapprehended (parāmasitvā), and adhered to one or another among the sixty-two speculative views (diṭṭhigata), thinking, "This is supreme, foremost, best, most distinguished, chief, highest, most excellent," they dwell, dwell together, dwell within, and dwell surrounded by each his own view. Just as householders dwell in houses, or those with offenses (āpatti) dwell in offenses, or those with defilements (kilesa) dwell in defilements — even so, there are some ascetics and brahmins who are adherents of views. Having taken up, learned, grasped, misapprehended, and adhered to one or another among the sixty-two speculative views, thinking, "This is supreme, foremost, best, most distinguished, chief, highest, most excellent," they dwell, dwell together, dwell within, and dwell surrounded by each his own view. Hence, "abiding in views, [holding] 'This is supreme.'"
