[164] **Having abandoned self, not clinging (attaṃ pahāya anupādiyāno):** "Having abandoned self" means having abandoned the view of self (attadiṭṭhi). "Having abandoned self" means having abandoned grasping (gāha). "Having abandoned self" means having abandoned that which is grasped, misapprehended, adhered to, cleaved to, and resolved upon through the power of craving (taṇhā) and through the power of view — having abandoned it, given it up, dispelled it, made an end of it, and brought it to non-existence. "Having abandoned self, not clinging": not clinging by means of the four kinds of clinging (upādāna), not grasping, not misapprehending, not adhering — therefore, "having abandoned self, not clinging."
