[187] **"People sorrow over what is cherished as 'mine' (socanti janā mamāyite)":** *people (janā)* means khattiyas, brāhmaṇas, vessas, suddas, householders and those gone forth, devas and human beings. **"Mine-making" (mamattā):** there are two kinds of mine-making — mine-making through craving (taṇhā) and mine-making through view (diṭṭhi) … This is mine-making through craving … This is mine-making through view. Those who are apprehensive of being deprived of an object cherished as 'mine' sorrow; they sorrow while it is being taken away; they sorrow when it has been taken away. Those who are apprehensive of the change of an object cherished as 'mine' sorrow; they sorrow while it is changing; they sorrow when it has changed. They grow weary, they lament, they beat their breasts and wail, they fall into confusion. Thus, "people sorrow over what is cherished as 'mine'."
