[188] **Permanent possessions do not exist at all (na hi santi niccā pariggahā):** "Possessions" (pariggaha): there are two kinds of possession — possession through craving (taṇhā) and possession through view (diṭṭhi) … this is possession through craving … this is possession through view. Possession through craving is impermanent, conditioned, dependently arisen, subject to destruction, subject to vanishing, subject to fading away, subject to cessation, subject to change. Possession through view is impermanent, conditioned, dependently arisen, subject to destruction, subject to vanishing, subject to fading away, subject to cessation, subject to change.
For this was said by the Blessed One: "Bhikkhus, do you see any such possession — a possession that is permanent, stable, eternal, not subject to change, that will remain just so, the same as eternity itself?" "No indeed, venerable sir." "Good, bhikkhus. I too, bhikkhus, do not see any possession that is permanent, stable, eternal, not subject to change, that would remain just so, the same as eternity itself."
Possessions that are permanent, stable, eternal, not subject to change do not exist, are not, are not found, are not apprehended. Hence, "permanent possessions do not exist at all."
