[19] **Whatever person covets** (yo naro anugijjhati): **Whatever** (yo) means whoever — of whatever sort, however engaged, however disposed, of whatever character, having attained whatever station, endowed with whatever dhamma — whether a khattiya, a brahmin, a vessa, a sudda, a householder, one gone forth, a deva, or a human being. **Person** (naro): a being, a man, a youth, a male, an individual, a living being, one who is born, a creature, one who fares according to his deeds (indagū), a human. **Covets** (anugijjhati): by means of sensuality as defilement (kilesakāma) one is greedy for, covets, craves all around, and is bound up in objects of sensuality (vatthukāma) — thus "whatever person covets." Therefore the Blessed One said:
Field, land, or gold, cattle and horses, slaves and workmen,
women, relatives, many sensual pleasures — whatever person covets these.
