[190] **"Having seen thus, one should not dwell in a house" (iti disvā nāgāram āvase)** — the word "iti" is a connection of words, a linking of words, a completion of a word, a combination of syllables, a smoothness of consonants; this word "iti" serves the sequence of words. **"Having seen thus"**: having seen, having beheld, having weighed, having judged, having elucidated, having made evident with regard to things cherished as 'mine' (mamatta) — thus, "having seen thus." **"One should not dwell in a house"**: having cut off every impediment (palibodha) of the household life, having cut off the impediment of children and wife, having cut off the impediment of relatives, having cut off the impediment of friends and companions, having cut off the impediment of stores, having shaved off hair and beard, having donned the ochre robes, having gone forth from home into homelessness, and having attained the state of owning nothing (akiñcanabhāva), one should wander alone — should dwell, move, conduct oneself, guard oneself, sustain oneself, keep oneself going. Thus, "having seen thus, one should not dwell in a house." Therefore the Blessed One said:
People sorrow over things cherished as 'mine';
for possessions are never permanent;
this exists only as subject to separation —
having seen thus, one should not dwell in a house.
