[218] **As water does not stick to the lotus (padume vāri yathā na limpati):** "Lotus (paduma)" is a term for the lotus flower. "Water (vāri)" is a term for water. Just as water does not stick, does not cling, does not adhere to the lotus flower — it is unstuck, unclung, unadhered — therefore it is said: "as water does not stick to the lotus."
