[223] **He neither becomes impassioned nor dispassioned:** all foolish worldlings become impassioned; the seven learners (sekha), including the virtuous worldling, become dispassioned; the Arahant neither becomes impassioned nor dispassioned. He is dispassioned because, through the extinction of lust, he is devoid of lust; because, through the extinction of hatred (dosa), he is devoid of hatred; because, through the extinction of delusion (moha), he is devoid of delusion. He has lived out the life, fulfilled the conduct … there is no renewed existence for him. Therefore, "he neither becomes impassioned nor dispassioned." Hence the Blessed One said:
The cleansed one (dhona) does not conceive
with regard to what is seen, heard, or sensed;
he does not seek purity through another;
for he neither becomes impassioned nor dispassioned.
