[222] "He does not desire purity by another" (nāññena visuddhimicchati): the cleansed one (dhono) does not desire, does not accept, does not wish for, does not long for, does not yearn after purity (suddhi), higher purity (visuddhi), complete purity (parisuddhi), release (mutti), liberation (vimutti), complete liberation (parimutti) by another — by an impure path, by a wrong mode of practice, by a way that does not lead out — apart from the establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna), apart from the right strivings (sammappadhāna), apart from the bases of spiritual power (iddhipāda), apart from the faculties (indriya), apart from the powers (bala), apart from the factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga), apart from the noble eightfold path (ariya aṭṭhaṅgika magga). Therefore it is said, "He does not desire purity by another."
