[260] **"One should train in seclusion itself"** (vivekaññeva sikkhethā ti): **Seclusion** (viveka): there are three kinds of seclusion — bodily seclusion (kāyaviveka), mental seclusion (cittaviveka), and seclusion from the essentials of existence (upadhiviveka). What is bodily seclusion? … This is seclusion from the essentials of existence. Bodily seclusion belongs to those whose bodies are withdrawn, who delight in renunciation (nekkhamma); mental seclusion belongs to those whose minds are purified, who have attained supreme cleansing; and seclusion from the essentials of existence belongs to persons free of the essentials of existence (nirūpadhi), who have gone to that which is devoid of formations (visaṅkhāra). **Training** (sikkhā): there are three trainings — training in higher morality (adhisīlasikkhā), training in higher mentality (adhicittasikkhā), and training in higher wisdom (adhipaññāsikkhā). … This is the training in higher wisdom. **"One should train in seclusion itself"**: one should train in seclusion itself, should practise it, should practise it thoroughly, should undertake it and conduct oneself accordingly — hence, "one should train in seclusion itself."
