[295] **Having stated a doctrine in the midst of the assembly:** in the midst of an assembly of khattiyas (khattiya-parisā), or an assembly of brahmins (brāhmaṇa-parisā), or an assembly of householders (gahapati-parisā), or an assembly of ascetics (samaṇa-parisā), having stated — having declared — his own doctrine (vāda), and having stated — having declared — the doctrine consequent thereon (anuvāda); having propped it up, strengthened it, explained it, illuminated it, expressed it, and determined it — thus, "having stated a doctrine in the midst of the assembly."
