Māgandiyasuttaniddesa

Suttapiṭaka · Khuddakanikāya · Mahāniddesa · Vol. 29 · Section 326

[326] **"'I assert this'—that does not occur to him":** "I assert this" [means]: I assert this, I assert that, I assert this much, I assert to this extent, I assert this speculative view (diṭṭhigata)—"The world is eternal," or … or "The Tathāgata after death neither exists nor does not exist." **"That does not occur to him"** [means]: it does not occur to me. Hence, "'I assert this'—that does not occur to him." **"Māgandiya":** the Blessed One addresses that brahmin by name. **"The Blessed One (Bhagavā)":** this is a term of reverence … this designation, namely "Bhagavā," is a designation verified by realization (sacchikā paññatti). Hence, "Māgandiya," said the Blessed One.
