[328] **"And seeing, [he does so] without grasping among views"** (*passañ ca diṭṭhīsu anuggahāya*): seeing the danger in views (*diṭṭhi*), [he thinks:] "I do not grasp views, I do not cling to them, I do not adhere to them"; or else: "views are not to be grasped, not to be clung to, not to be adhered to" — thus too, "and seeing, without grasping among views." Or else: "'The world is eternal; this alone is true, anything else is vain' — this is a speculative view (*diṭṭhigata*), a thicket of views, a wilderness of views, a contortion of views, a vacillation of views, a fetter (saṃyojana) of views; it is attended by suffering (dukkha), attended by vexation, attended by despair, attended by fever; it does not lead to disenchantment, nor to dispassion, nor to cessation (nirodha), nor to peace, nor to direct knowledge, nor to full awakening, nor to Nibbāna" — seeing thus the danger in views, [he thinks:] "I do not grasp views, I do not cling to them, I do not adhere to them"; or else: "views are not to be grasped, not to be clung to, not to be adhered to" — thus too, "and seeing, without grasping among views." "'The world is not eternal; the world is finite; the world is infinite; the soul is the same as the body; the soul is one thing, the body another; the Tathāgata exists after death; the Tathāgata does not exist after death; the Tathāgata both exists and does not exist after death; the Tathāgata neither exists nor does not exist after death; this alone is true, anything else is vain' — this is a speculative view, a thicket of views, a wilderness of views, a contortion of views, a vacillation of views, a fetter of views; it is attended by suffering, attended by vexation, attended by despair, attended by fever; it does not lead to disenchantment, nor to dispassion, nor to cessation, nor to peace, nor to direct knowledge, nor to full awakening, nor to Nibbāna" — seeing thus the danger in views, [he thinks:] "I do not grasp views, I do not cling to them, I do not adhere to them"; or else: "views are not to be grasped, not to be clung to, not to be adhered to" — thus too, "and seeing, without grasping among views." Or else: "These views, thus grasped, thus clung to, have such an outcome, such a future destination" — seeing thus the danger in views, [he thinks:] "I do not grasp views, I do not cling to them, I do not adhere to them"; or else: "views are not to be grasped, not to be clung to, not to be adhered to" — thus too, "and seeing, without grasping among views." Or else: "These views lead to hell (niraya), lead to the animal realm, lead to the realm of hungry ghosts (pittivisaya)" — seeing thus the danger in views, [he thinks:] "I do not grasp views, I do not cling to them, I do not adhere to them"; or else: "views are not to be grasped, not to be clung to, not to be adhered to" — thus too, "and seeing, without grasping among views." Or else: "These views are impermanent, conditioned, dependently arisen, subject to destruction, subject to vanishing, subject to fading away, subject to cessation" — seeing thus the danger in views, [he thinks:] "I do not grasp views, I do not cling to them, I do not adhere to them"; or else: "views are not to be grasped, not to be clung to, not to be adhered to" — thus too, "and seeing, without grasping among views."
