[333] **How, indeed, has that been proclaimed by the wise?** — "How, indeed (kathaṃ nu)": this is a question out of doubt, a question out of perplexity, a two-fold question, a question admitting more than one alternative — "Is it thus, indeed? Is it not thus, indeed? What is it, indeed? How is it, indeed?" — thus, "how, indeed." **By the wise (dhīrehi)**: [⁴] by the learned, by those possessed of wisdom, by the intelligent, by those endowed with knowledge (ñāṇa), by the discerning, by the sagacious. **Proclaimed (paveditaṃ)**: known, proclaimed, told, taught, made known, established, disclosed, analyzed, made plain, revealed — thus, "how, indeed, has that been proclaimed by the wise?" Therefore the Blessed One said:
> "Whatever determinations have been mentally constructed" (thus said Māgandiya),
> "of those, truly, you, a sage, speak without grasping.
> As to this matter, 'inner peace' —
> how, indeed, has that been proclaimed by the wise?"
