[338] **And, having relinquished these, without grasping** (ete ca nissajja anuggahāya): by means of these, the abandonment of the dhammas belonging to the dark side (kaṇhapakkhikā dhammā) through eradication is to be desired; non-identification (atammayatā) with regard to wholesome dhammas pertaining to the three elements (dhātu) is to be desired. When the dhammas belonging to the dark side have been abandoned through abandonment by eradication, cut off at the root, made like a palm stump, brought to non-existence, of a nature not to arise again in the future, and there is non-identification with regard to wholesome dhammas pertaining to the three elements — to this extent too one does not grasp, does not cling, does not adhere. Or alternatively: they are not to be grasped, not to be clung to, not to be adhered to. Thus too: **and, having relinquished these, without grasping**.
When craving (taṇhā), view, and conceit have been abandoned, cut off at the root, made like a palm stump, brought to non-existence, of a nature not to arise again in the future — to this extent too one does not grasp, does not cling, does not adhere. Thus too: **and, having relinquished these, without grasping**.
When the formation of merit (puññābhisaṅkhāra), the formation of demerit (apuññābhisaṅkhāra), and the formation of the imperturbable (āneñjābhisaṅkhāra) have been abandoned, cut off at the root, made like a palm stump, brought to non-existence, of a nature not to arise again in the future — to this extent too one does not grasp, does not cling, does not adhere. Thus too: **and, having relinquished these, without grasping**.
