[373] **Those who have grasped perception and view — they, causing friction, wander in the world** (saññañca diṭṭhiñca ye aggahesuṃ, te ghaṭṭayantā vicaranti loke): Those who grasp perception (saññā) — the perception of sensuality (kāmasaññā), the perception of ill will (byāpādasaññā), the perception of cruelty (vihiṃsāsaññā) — they, by force of perception, cause friction, cause collision. Kings dispute with kings, khattiyas dispute with khattiyas, brahmins dispute with brahmins, householders dispute with householders; mother disputes with son, son disputes with mother; father disputes with son, son disputes with father; brother disputes with brother, sister disputes with sister; brother disputes with sister, sister disputes with brother; friend disputes with friend. Having fallen therein into quarreling, strife, and dispute, they attack one another with fists, attack with clods, attack with sticks, attack with weapons. Thereby they incur death, or suffering (dukkha) verging on death. Those who grasp a view — "The world is eternal," or … "The Tathāgata neither exists nor does not exist after death" — they, by force of view, cause friction, cause collision: they clash teacher against teacher, clash exposition of the doctrine against exposition of the doctrine, clash group against group, clash view against view, clash practice against practice, clash path (magga) against path. Or else, they dispute: they make quarrels, make brawls, make strife, make disputes, make contention, saying, "You do not understand this Dhamma and Discipline … or extricate yourself if you are able." For them the volitional constructions (abhisaṅkhāra) are unabandoned; and because the volitional constructions are unabandoned, they clash as to destination: they clash in hell, they clash in the animal realm, they clash in the realm of hungry ghosts, they clash in the human world, they clash in the world of devas; they clash and collide destination with destination, reappearance with reappearance, rebirth-linking with rebirth-linking, existence with existence, saṃsāra with saṃsāra, the round with the round; causing friction they go about, dwell, deport themselves, carry on, maintain, sustain, and keep themselves going. **In the world** (loke): in the world of the states of loss, the human world, the world of devas, the world of aggregates (khandha), the world of elements (dhātu), the world of sense bases (āyatana). Thus: those who have grasped perception and view — they, causing friction, wander in the world. Therefore the Blessed One said: For one detached from perception there are no ties (gantha); for one liberated by wisdom there are no delusions. Those who have grasped perception and view — they, causing friction, wander in the world. The Ninth, the Exposition of the Māgandiya Sutta, is concluded. _______________ The Tenth: The Exposition of the Purābheda Sutta
