[416] **"For him there are no swellings (ussadā)"** — **"for him"**: for the Arahant whose taints (āsava) are destroyed. **"Swellings"**: there are seven swellings — the swelling of lust (rāga), the swelling of hatred, the swelling of delusion, the swelling of conceit (māna), the swelling of views (diṭṭhi), the swelling of defilements (kilesa), the swelling of kamma. For him these swellings do not exist, are not found, are not discovered, are not obtained; they are abandoned, cut off, stilled, tranquilized, rendered incapable of arising again, burnt up by the fire of knowledge (ñāṇa). Therefore, "for him there are no swellings." Hence the Blessed One said:
Equanimous, ever mindful,
he does not conceive himself in the world as equal,
nor as superior, nor as inferior:
for him there are no swellings.
