[427] **"For him there exist no sons, cattle, field, or land (na tassa puttā pasavo khettaṃ vatthuñca vijjati)":** "Not (na)" is a negation. **"For him"**: for the Arahant whose taints (āsava) are destroyed. **"Sons" (puttā)**: there are four kinds of sons — a son born of oneself, a son born in the field, a given [adopted] son, and a pupil who is as a son. **"Cattle" (pasavo)**: goats and sheep, chickens and pigs, elephants, cows, horses, and mares. **"Field" (khettaṃ)**: a field of sāli rice, a field of paddy, a field of mung beans, a field of māsa beans, a field of barley, a field of wheat, a field of sesame. **"Land" (vatthu)**: a house site, a granary site, a site in front, a site behind, a garden site, a dwelling site. **"For him there exist no sons, cattle, field, or land"**: for him there is no grasping at sons, no grasping at cattle, no grasping at fields, no grasping at land; these are not, do not exist, are not found, are not apprehended; they are abandoned, cut off, stilled, subsided, rendered incapable of arising again, burnt up by the fire of knowledge (ñāṇa). Therefore, "for him there exist no sons, cattle, field, or land."
