[48] **"One should not conduct oneself unrighteously on that account" (na tassa hetū visamaṃ careyya)** means: one should not conduct oneself unrighteously (visama) on account of unrighteous bodily action (kāyakamma); one should not conduct oneself unrighteously on account of unrighteous verbal action (vacīkamma); one should not conduct oneself unrighteously on account of unrighteous mental action (manokamma); one should not conduct oneself unrighteously on account of unrighteous killing (pāṇātipāta); one should not conduct oneself unrighteously on account of unrighteous taking what is not given (adinnādāna); one should not conduct oneself unrighteously on account of unrighteous sexual misconduct (kāmesu micchācāra); one should not conduct oneself unrighteously on account of unrighteous false speech (musāvāda); one should not conduct oneself unrighteously on account of unrighteous divisive speech (pisuṇā vācā); one should not conduct oneself unrighteously on account of unrighteous harsh speech (pharusā vācā); one should not conduct oneself unrighteously on account of unrighteous frivolous talk (samphappalāpa); one should not conduct oneself unrighteously on account of unrighteous covetousness (abhijjhā); one should not conduct oneself unrighteously on account of unrighteous ill will (byāpāda); one should not conduct oneself unrighteously on account of unrighteous wrong view (micchādiṭṭhi); one should not conduct oneself in unrighteous ways on account of unrighteous volitional formations (saṅkhārā); one should not conduct oneself in unrighteous ways on account of the unrighteous five strands of sensual pleasure (kāmaguṇa); one should not conduct oneself in unrighteous ways on account of the unrighteous five hindrances (nīvaraṇa); on account of unrighteous volition (cetanā), on account of unrighteous aspiration (patthanā), on account of unrighteous resolve (paṇidhi), one should not conduct oneself unrighteously — should not practice it, should not habitually practice it, should not undertake it and carry on with it.
