[480] **"Tell me this: having what as its source" (etamme pabrūhi yatonidānaṃ):** *Etaṃ* ("this") means: that which I ask, that which I request, that which I invite [you to declare], that which I would have you graciously declare. *Pabrūhi* ("tell") means: tell, declare, teach, make known, establish, disclose, analyze, make plain, proclaim — thus, "tell me this." *Yatonidānaṃ* ("having what as its source") means: having what as its source (nidāna), having what as its origin, having what as its birth, having what as its production — thus, "tell me this: having what as its source." Therefore that created [Buddha-]image (nimmita) said:
"The pleasant and the unpleasant — having what as their source?
When what is not present do these not come to be?
And also this matter — non-existence and existence —
tell me this: having what as its source?"
