[487] **Contact (phassa) in the world—from what does it have its source (nidāna)?** — [This] means: he asks the root of contact — "From what does contact have its source? From what is it born, from what is it produced, from what does it come into being, from what is it brought forth, from what has it appeared? What is its source, what is its origin, of what is it born, what is its provenance?" — [1] … he asks its origin; he questions, requests, entreats, and implores [him to declare it]. Therefore it is said: "Contact in the world—from what does it have its source?"
