[505] **"For reckonings of proliferation (papañcasaṅkhā) have perception as their source (saññānidānā hi papañcasaṅkhā)":** proliferations (papañca) themselves are the reckonings of proliferation — the reckonings of proliferation that are craving (taṇhā), the reckonings of proliferation that are views (diṭṭhi), the reckonings of proliferation that are conceit (māna). These have perception (saññā) as their source (nidāna), perception as their origin, perception as their birth, perception as their place of arising. Thus, "for reckonings of proliferation have perception as their source." Therefore the Blessed One said:
He is not percipient with ordinary perception, nor percipient with deranged perception;
nor is he non-percipient, nor one whose perception has vanished.
For one who has attained thus, form vanishes;
for reckonings of proliferation have perception as their source.
