[516] **Having known the dependencies (nissaya), that sage is an investigator** — "Sage (muni)": knowledge (ñāṇa) is called sagacity (mona) … having passed beyond the tie and the net, he is a sage. The sage, having known "they are dependent on the eternalist view (sassatadiṭṭhi)," having known "they are dependent on the annihilationist view (ucchedadiṭṭhi)," having known "they are dependent on both the eternalist and the annihilationist views" — having known, having weighed, having judged, having elucidated, having made evident. **That investigator**: he is a wise man, possessed of wisdom, intelligent, endowed with knowledge (ñāṇa), discerning, sagacious. Hence, "Having known the dependencies, that sage is an investigator."
