[521] **Having taken up (their views), those claiming to be skilled speak variously (viggayha nānā kusalā vadanti):** "Having taken up (viggayha)" means having grasped, having taken up, having seized, having adhered to, having become fixated upon. "Speak variously (nānā vadanti)" means they speak variously, they speak in diverse ways, they speak one against another, they speak in manifold ways; they do not speak as one — they speak, talk, utter, explain, and express. "Skilled (kusalā)" means claiming to be skilled, claiming to be wise, claiming to be sagacious, claiming to possess knowledge (ñāṇa); speaking by way of reasons, speaking by way of characteristics, speaking by way of causes, speaking by way of grounds — each according to his own creed. Hence: "Having taken up (their views), those claiming to be skilled speak variously."
