[543] **"Therefore indeed they regard the other as a fool"** — "Therefore" means: therefore, for that reason, from that cause, owing to that condition, with that as its source, they regard the other as "a fool — inferior, debased, low, vile, paltry, petty"; they regard, see, behold, look upon, contemplate, and examine him thus. Hence: "Therefore indeed they regard the other as a fool." Therefore the Blessed One said:
"I do not say that this is real —
that which fools¹ say to one another in mutual opposition;
they have each made their own view (diṭṭhi) the truth;
therefore indeed they regard the other as a fool."
