[553] **Therefore ascetics do not speak of one [truth]** (tasmā na ekaṃ samaṇā vadanti): **Therefore** means for that reason, from that cause, owing to that condition, with that as its source, they do not speak of one thing; they speak variously, they speak in diverse ways, they speak differently from one another, they speak in manifold ways; they declare, utter, explain, and express. Hence, "therefore ascetics do not speak of one [truth]."
Therefore the Blessed One said:
Truth (sacca) indeed is one; there is no second,
understanding which, people would not dispute.
They themselves proclaim various truths;
therefore ascetics do not speak of one [truth].
