[687] *When disputes have arisen, he does not run with a faction* (vivādajātesu na vaggasārī): when disputes have arisen, been engendered, been produced, been brought forth, become manifest — while [others] take the wrong course of partiality (chandāgati), take the wrong course of hatred (dosāgati), take the wrong course of delusion (mohāgati), take the wrong course of fear (bhayāgati) — he does not take the wrong course of partiality, does not take the wrong course of hatred, does not take the wrong course of delusion, does not take the wrong course of fear; he does not go by way of lust (rāga), does not go by way of hatred, does not go by way of delusion, does not go by way of conceit (māna), does not go by way of view (diṭṭhi), does not go by way of restlessness, does not go by way of doubt, does not go by way of latent tendencies (anusaya); he is not led, guided, carried along, or swept away by factious dhammas. Hence, "when disputes have arisen, he does not run with a faction."
