[689] **"Not taking up, [while others are] taking up, I should think" (anuggaho uggahaṇanti maññe):** others grasp,² cling, and adhere by way of craving (taṇhā), by way of view; the Arahant looks on with equanimity — he does not grasp, does not cling, does not adhere. Thus: "not taking up, [while others are] taking up, I should think." Therefore the Blessed One said:
Having discarded the ties (gantha), the sage (muni) here in the world,
when disputes have arisen, is no follower of a faction;
at peace¹ among those who are not at peace, he is equanimous —
not taking up, [while others are] taking up, I should think.
