[711] **"For that is not called extinguishment by the good (na hi sā nibbuti sataṃ vuttā)"** means: by the good — the peaceful ones, the true persons, the Buddhas, the disciples of the Buddhas, the Paccekabuddhas — that is not called extinguishment (nibbuti); it is not declared, not spoken, not told, not taught, not made known, not established, not disclosed, not analyzed, not elucidated, not proclaimed. Hence, "for that is not called extinguishment by the good."
Therefore the Blessed One said:
Whatever dhamma one might directly know,
whether internal or even external,
let one not create conceit (māna) on account of it,
for that is not called extinguishment by the good.
