[730] **The Pāṭimokkha, or else concentration (samādhi)**: "Pāṭimokkha" means virtue (sīla) — the foundation, the beginning, the conduct, the self-control, the restraint, the mouth, the chief, for the attainment of wholesome dhammas. "Or else concentration" means whatever steadiness of the mind (citta) there is — its stability, its steadfastness, its non-wavering, its non-distraction, the state of a mind not drawn away, calm, the faculty of concentration, the power of concentration, right concentration — thus "the Pāṭimokkha, or else concentration." Therefore that mind-made Buddha (nimmita) said:
"The One of Opened Vision has proclaimed the directly witnessed Dhamma (sakkhidhamma),
the dispelling of perils;
venerable sir, declare the way of practice —
the Pāṭimokkha, or else concentration."
