[757] **"He should not tremble at blame":** Here some blame a bhikkhu — on account of birth, or on account of clan, or on account of being a son of a good family, or on account of beauty of complexion, or on account of wealth, or on account of study, or on account of a field of work, or on account of a field of craft, or on account of a branch of knowledge, or on account of learning, or on account of wit, or on one or another ground — they blame him, censure him, revile him. Being blamed, censured, and reviled, he should not waver, should not tremble, should not shake violently at the blame, the censure, the reviling, the disrepute, the spreading of dispraise; he should not be alarmed, should not be frightened, should not be terrified; he should not fear, should not fall into terror. He should be fearless, undaunted, unterrified, not one who flees; he should dwell with fear and dread abandoned, with horripilation gone. Hence, "he should not tremble at blame."
