[77] **"Led on by desire (chanda), settled in his preference"**: **"Led on by desire"** means: he travels, is led, is carried along, is swept along by his own view (diṭṭhi), his own acceptance (khanti), his own preference (ruci), his own creed (laddhi). Just as one travels, is led, is carried along, is swept along by an elephant-vehicle, or a chariot-vehicle, or a horse-vehicle, or an ox-vehicle, or a goat-vehicle, or a ram-vehicle, or a camel-vehicle, or a donkey-vehicle — even so he travels, is led, is carried along, is swept along by his own view, his own acceptance, his own preference, his own creed. Thus he is "led on by desire." **"Settled in his preference"** means: he is settled, established, attached, arrived, clinging, resolved upon his own view, his own acceptance, his own preference, his own creed.
