[772] **Clearly comprehending, one should not act with deceit (saṭhāni):** What is hypocrisy (sāṭheyya)? Here someone is deceitful, thoroughly deceitful. That which therein is deceit, deceitfulness, hypocrisy, guile, guilefulness, duplicity, duplicitousness — this is called hypocrisy.
**Clearly comprehending, one should not act with deceit:** being one who clearly comprehends, one should not practice hypocrisy, should not generate it, should not engender it, should not produce it, should not bring it forth; one should abandon hypocrisy, dispel it, make an end of it, bring it to non-existence; one should be far from hypocrisy, abstaining from it, refraining from it, gone out from it, released from it, freed from it, detached from it; one should dwell with a mind rid of boundaries. Therefore it is said: clearly comprehending, one should not act with deceit.
