[787] **"Heedful, ever revering, one should train on," said the Blessed One.** — **"Heedful (appamatta)"** means: one should be acting with respect … heedful in wholesome dhammas. **"Ever (sadā)"** means: at all times, always … in the final stage of life. **"Revering (namassaṃ)"** means: revering with body, or revering with speech, or revering with mind (citta), or revering by practice in accordance with the meaning (anvatthapaṭipatti), or revering by practice of the Dhamma in conformity with the Dhamma (dhammānudhammapaṭipatti) — honoring, respecting, esteeming, venerating, showing deference. **"One should train on (anusikkhe)"** means: there are three trainings — the training in higher morality (adhisīla-sikkhā), the training in higher mentality (adhicitta-sikkhā), and the training in higher wisdom (adhipaññā-sikkhā) … this is the training in higher wisdom. Adverting to these three trainings, one should train … realizing what is to be realized, one should train; one should practice, practice thoroughly, and, having undertaken them, conduct oneself accordingly. **"The Blessed One (Bhagavā)"** is a term of reverence … a designation founded on realization (sacchikā paññatti), namely, "Bhagavā." Hence: "Heedful, ever revering, one should train on," said the Blessed One. Therefore the Blessed One said:
For he is a conqueror, unconquered;
he has seen the Dhamma as an eyewitness, not by hearsay.
Therefore, in that Blessed One's dispensation,
heedful, ever revering, one should train on —
so said the Blessed One.
