[796] **Hostile toward one another (aññamaññehi byāruddhe)**: beings are hostile toward one another and opposed in return; they strike and strike back; they bear malice and bear malice in return. Kings dispute with kings, khattiyas dispute with khattiyas, brahmins dispute with brahmins, householders dispute with householders; a mother disputes with her son, and a son disputes with his mother; a father disputes with his son, and a son disputes with his father; a brother disputes with a brother, a sister disputes with a sister; a brother disputes with a sister, and a sister disputes with a brother; a friend disputes with a friend. Having fallen into quarrels, strife, and disputes therein, they attack one another with hands, they attack with clods, they attack with sticks, and they attack with weapons. Thereby they come to death and to suffering (dukkha) as severe as death. Hence, "hostile toward one another."
