[807] **Hard to see, lodged in the heart** (duddasaṃ hadayassitaṃ): **Hard to see** (duddasaṃ) means hard to see, hard to behold, hard to discern, hard to understand, hard to comprehend, hard to penetrate. **Lodged in the heart**: "heart" (hadaya) is a designation for the mind (citta) — that which is mind (citta), intellect (mano), mentality (mānasa), heart, the lucid (paṇḍara), mind, the mind base (manāyatana), the mind faculty (manindriya), consciousness (viññāṇa), the aggregate of consciousness (viññāṇakkhandha), the corresponding mind-consciousness element (tajjā manoviññāṇadhātu). **Lodged in the heart** means dependent on the heart, dependent on the mind, closely dependent on the mind; accompanying the mind, arisen together with it, conjoined with it, associated with it; arising together with it, ceasing together with it, having a single basis, having a single object — thus, "hard to see, lodged in the heart." Therefore the Blessed One said:
"But when I saw them in conflict even at the very end, discontent arose in me;
then I saw here the dart, hard to see, lodged in the heart."
