[832] **"One should not delight in the old" (purāṇaṃ nābhinandeyya):** "the old" (purāṇa) refers to past form, feeling (vedanā), perception, volitional formations, and consciousness [2]. One should not delight in, should not welcome, should not cleave to past formations (saṅkhārā) by way of craving (taṇhā) or by way of views (diṭṭhi); one should abandon, dispel, put an end to, and bring to non-existence delighting, welcoming, cleaving, grasping, misapprehension, and adherence. Hence, "one should not delight in the old."
