[837] **"I say that greed is the great flood" (gedhaṃ brūmi mahoghoti):** 'Greed' (gedha) is a designation for craving (taṇhā) — that is, lust, passion, … covetousness, greed, the unwholesome root. 'The great flood' (mahogha) is a designation for craving — that is, lust, passion, … covetousness, greed, the unwholesome root. "I say that greed is the great flood": I say, declare, teach, make known, establish, disclose, analyze, make plain, and proclaim that greed is the great flood. Hence, "I say that greed is the great flood."
