[850] **He does not long for anyone here** (nappihetīdha kassaci): longing (pihā) is a term for craving (taṇhā), that is, lust, passion … covetousness, greed, the unwholesome root. He in whom this longing, this craving, has been abandoned, cut off, stilled, tranquilized, rendered incapable of arising, burnt up by the fire of knowledge (ñāṇa) — he does not long for anyone: whether a khattiya, or a brahmin, or a vessa, or a sudda, or a householder, or one gone forth, or a deva, or a human being. Hence, "he does not long for anyone here." Therefore the Blessed One said:
He truly is one who knows, one attained to knowledge (vedagū);
having known the Dhamma, he is independent;
moving rightly in the world,
he does not long for anyone here.
