[875] **He is abstinent from instigation (viyārambha)**: "instigation" is a term for the meritorious formation (puññābhisaṅkhāra), the demeritorious formation (apuññābhisaṅkhāra), and the imperturbable formation (āneñjābhisaṅkhāra). When the meritorious formation, the demeritorious formation, and the imperturbable formation have been abandoned, cut off at the root, made like a palm stump, brought to non-existence, no longer subject to future arising — to that extent he would be far from instigation: abstinent, refrained, departed, released, freed, detached, and he dwells with a mind made free of boundaries. Therefore it is said: "he is abstinent from instigation."
