[897] **"Come as a leader of a group" (gaṇimāgataṃ)**: One who has a group is a "leader of a group" (gaṇī). The Blessed One is a gaṇī because he is a teacher of a group (gaṇācariya). He is a gaṇī because he is the Teacher of a group. He is a gaṇī because he looks after a group. He is a gaṇī because he exhorts a group. He is a gaṇī because he instructs a group. He is a gaṇī because, confident, he approaches a group. He is a gaṇī because the group desires to hear him, lends ear, and sets up a mind directed to final knowledge (aññā). He is a gaṇī because he raises the group out of the unwholesome and establishes it in the wholesome. He is the leader of the group of bhikkhus; the leader of the group of bhikkhunīs; the leader of the group of laymen (upāsaka); the leader of the group of laywomen (upāsikā); the leader of the group of kings; the leader of the group of khattiyas; the leader of the group of brahmins; the leader of the group of vessas; the leader of the group of suddas; the leader of the group of brahmās; the leader of the group of devas. Possessed of a Saṅgha, having a group, a teacher of a group, he has come, approached, drawn near, and arrived at the city of Saṅkassa — hence, "one without deceit (akuha), come as a leader of a group."
