[898] **Of the many here who are bound (bahunnam idha baddhānaṃ):** "Of the many" means of many khattiyas (noblemen), brāhmaṇas (brahmins), vessas (merchants and farmers), suddas (laborers and servants), householders, those gone forth (pabbajita), devas, and human beings. **"Bound"** means of those who are bound, of those whose conduct is one of attachment (baddhacara), of attendants, of pupils — therefore, "of the many here who are bound." #1 The Po. and Ma. editions read: *saṅghiṃ gaṇiṃ gaṇācariyaṃ āganti-upagataṃ samupagataṃ samuppannaṃ*. #2 The Ma. edition reads *paricārakānaṃ*.
